An award-winning writer, Nicola has been published in The Walrus, The Globe and Mail, explore, Harrowsmith Country Life, Avenue, Mountain Life, Alternatives Journal, The New Quarterly, Calgary Herald, Hamilton Spectator, Mexico City News and many other publications. She is a columnist with In the Hills magazine and was the editor-in-chief of Alternatives Journal, Canada’s national magazine.

Nicola gained much of her freelance experience writing about the environment and, more specifically, climate change. Now, however, she is more inclined to write about travel and adventure, though things green are never far from her thoughts.

She is the recipient of a National Magazine Award for her article on ecological footprint and received the Mayor of Calgary’s award for environmental writing. Nicola attended the Banff Mountain & Wilderness Writing Program on scholarship and taught magazine writing at Humber College.
